“I don’t drink coffee, I take tea, my dear,” says the Englishman in New York. Although I’m no Englishman—or Englishwoman, for that matter—I also do prefer tea over coffee. So when I sensed the blogosphere being a-twitter about this little tea house in Greenhills, I immediately went, “Where is this is Serenitea and why haven’t I been there?!”
Serenitea, as it turns out, a teeny tiny hole in the wall along J. Abad-Santos street in Greenhills. So little, in fact, that they only have space for two tables inside (and two very small tables outside), a bar-style “table” on the side, and the kitchen. That’s it.
When I arrived, my senses were assaulted with the heavenly, soothing smell of tea. Despite the many people queued up at the counter, it didn’t smell like people at all. Yey for cleanliness! As I sat at the bar to wait for Mica, Cai and Winston, I watched as a steady stream of people came and went to get their tea. The place barely had down time!
In Serenitea you choose your tea, your sinker, and your sugar.
There’s a myriad of tea flavors to choose from…
My personal favorite is the Hokkaido Milk Tea. As of writing, I’ve only tried about four flavors, though. There are so much more to try!
For your sinker, you choose from pearl, crystal, black bricks, pudding, lime jelly, and QQ. I got the pearl one because it’s the most familiar. Hehe.
And then you choose your sugar level. You can go from 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% and even beyond 100% for all you people with a sweet tooth! I usually get 25% on my tea.
My first Serenitea cup was Hokkaido with pearls, 25% sugar. It certainly wasn’t my last, because a couple of hours later, I got a Wintermelon with coffee bricks and 25% sugar. Haha!
Of course, you also choose your size of Serenitea cup. The milk teas are only P95 for the large glass. It’s totally worth it!
There are also side dishes available. I ordered the hash brown expecting a Mickey D’s type of thing. BUT IT WAS NOT. It was salty sweet—I think it had cinnamon in it. It was a bit too flavorful by itself, but when you eat it alongside your tea, AH, HEAVEN!
Ah, Serenitea. I have found a new place to love!
